Knowing His love is the key to being strengthened with might in the inner man. God gave me a visible illustration of the meaning "to be rooted and grounded in His love."

Fifty-mile hour winds swept through Orange County, leaving devastation. Trees were down, roofs were torn off, garbage cans and their contents were scattered everywhere. Damaged debris lay throughout neighborhoods.

When the winds had subsided, I ventured out for my morning walk in a huge park. The park rangers said they preferred I not enter the park since the winds were still strong and damage was everywhere. After some coaxing, they decided to let me proceed at my risk. I sensed God wanted to meet me there.

As I entered the park, the Lord said, "These are My winds of change." I sensed these natural storms were God's forecast of the hard times ahead.

Then, the Lord told me to look around the park. Much to my surprise, some of the largest trees had been completely blown over. I ran to look at one huge tree reaching one hundred feet in length. I couldn't imagine why this monstrosity lay in ruins. The Lord said to me, "Look at its roots!" I ran to the bottom of the tree. In shock, I saw that this huge tree had scrawny little roots.

The Lord spoke again, "Look around you."

I did. There were little eight foot trees still standing tall despite the strong windy gusts. The Lord said, "These small trees had deep roots that could withstand the stormy winds."

Jesus explained to me how important it is for His people to be rooted and grounded in His love. Only His love would sustain them to stand tall, despite the fiery trials up ahead.

As His bride, the church, comes to know the God Who is Love, the Beloved Son and the Spirit of Love, a bond of love would be formed that cannot be broken.
